About
The ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (ISA TRAQ) is a voluntary qualification program designed to train and assess candidates in a specialized area of arboriculture. When a professional obtains the ISA TRAQ qualification, they should be recognized by their peers and the public as a tree care professional possessing specialized knowledge in tree risk assessment. To obtain this qualification, eligible candidates must undergo training and successfully complete both a thorough written assessment and a practical assessment. To maintain their qualification, TRAQ qualification holders must undergo retraining and retake the exam every seven (7) years.
The program offers tree care professionals the opportunity to learn a standardized and systematic process of tree risk assessment and to provide information to tree owners and risk managers when making decisions that enhance the safety of people and property and improve the benefits, health, and longevity of trees. Once the program is successfully completed, qualified professionals:
- master the fundamental principles of limited and basic tree risk assessment as outlined in the ISA publication "Best Management Practices: Tree Risk Assessment;
- understand the principles of advanced diagnostic techniques for assessing tree risks;
- know how to gather and synthesize the necessary information to assess tree risks; and
- are able to make reasoned judgments and formulate recommendations for mitigating identified risks.
