Continuing education credits or “CEUs
What is a “continuing education unit”?
A continuing education unit is a point you earn when you participate in arboriculture-related training activities. By accumulating these credits, you can renew your certification without having to retake the exam. One continuing education unit is equivalent to 1 hour of training (45-minute conference = 0.75 credit).

Other questions about CFCs
- How can I obtain CEUs for a training event I believe is eligible?
To obtain CEUs for an event that has not been approved, you must complete the training pre-approval form.
- Can the additional CEUs I earn over and above the required number be carried over to the next certification period?
No. The ISA Certification Committee encourages the accumulation of CFCs through continuing education within the three (3) year period. Once you have renewed, all accumulated CFCs are transferred to your credit history and the current total is reset to zero. You must earn credits again for this new three (3)-year period.
